Friday/Sunday Events

Posted in Strongman on May 26, 2008 by zackbest

I was run down on Friday, but I still did a few events.

Sandbag Load:  This event is for the Nebraska contest, it was nice to do something different though.

Loaded 300# sandbag 3 times.  Then 3 runs with a 150#, 200#, and 250# bags.

Yoke: 550, 650, 750 and 850   All the runs felt good and I did the 850 in 22 seconds.

Sunday

Started with farmers walk: 200 and 270 for 60 feet, then tried 320 and failed.  Everything in the gym was damp and moist as the humidity is very high, I’m not sure if that was the reason though.

Press Medley: I’m able to blow through the first 3 presses very easy now, but I still haven’t had enough gas to finish the 4th.  I’m going to try to set a smoking time on the first 3 at the contest and then gather myself for 10-15 seconds before attmepting the last log.

Stones: 310# for 5 reps – again very wet stone, but grinded it out.  Then tried the 360#, it was elevated and not damp like the others.  I hit it for 3 very quick reps!  Very pleased with this!

3 Good Days

Posted in Zack's Training on May 21, 2008 by zackbest

I had 3 really good days of training in the gym this week!

Monday- I worked back, and hit 585# deadlift x 3, and 615# x 1

Tuesday- Legs and squatted 495# x 7

Wednesday- Throttled the chest and triceps, 315# x 3 on incline bench

I’ll take tomorrow off to rest up for events on Friday!

It’s been a while

It’s been a while since I posted. My little brother got married on Saturday, so I took some time off to spend with friends and family. I didn’t lift for four days and hopefully got somewhat recovered.

I have 3 weeks until the Iowa contest, so that means I have 2 weeks of intense training between now and then. Lifting in the gym has been good, and event training is still progressing. I will probably hit events 4 times in these next 2 weeks.

Let’s see where I’m at-

Press Medley: 105# Kettlebell, 260# 8″ Log, 290# Axle, 330# 12″ Log all in 60 seconds

  • I have made it to the last log, but I’m extremely winded and haven’t got the press yet.

Farmers Walk: 325# in each hand for 80 feet

  • I have taken 300# this far, I may have 1 sit down in competition

Yoke Walk: 850# yoke for 60 feet

  • Have done this a few times, should be a good event for me

Silver Dollar Deadlift:  Starting at 500# and jumping 50# each round

  • I have gone as high as 700#, I might hit 750# at Iowa

Stone Load: 275,300,330,365,405

  • I have loaded a 360# in a series in training and that is our heaviest stone

I’m happy with how my training has progressed, I’ll keep it up until the week before.  I will mainly rest and recover that week and hopefully perform well on June 7th!

Friday

Posted in Strongman on May 9, 2008 by zackbest

Only did 2 events today. My lower body is feeling overtrained and I have a semi pulled muscle in my chest. I was happy with today’s performance, but I think I will take next week off of events.

Farmers, 80 Foot Runs: 200, 240, 290, 305 – 25 feet, pick up 10 feet, pick up 5 feet
Josh had never done this before and took 240 for 80 feet with only 1 put down – Impressive!

Yoke Carry, 60 Foot Runs: 550, 750, 550, 850, 550,
Then I got retarded and tried 1000 pounds…got it for 5 feet

Sunday – More Events!?

Silver Dollar Deadlift

I headed back over to CB today for some more event training.  I trained events hard on Friday, had a tough chest workout on Saturday, and here I’m training hard again on Sunday.  I know need the work on my events, but I don’t like to sacrifice my gym time…and that can lead to over training.  So hopefully this week I’ll take it a little easier in the gym and get recuperated.

Farmers- I wasn’t feeling these at all today

60 foot runs with 110, 200, 260, but 308 wasn’t going anywhere

Yoke-

60 foot runs with 610, 700, 750, 850 – Fairly quick, 650

Silver Dollar Deadlift

500, 550, 600, 650, 700 – Almost, but not quite!

Friday – Jobes

Posted in Strongman on May 2, 2008 by zackbest

I’ve been trying to train at least 3 events every time I go to Jobes, today was axle, log and stones.

Started with log press, I hadn’t trained it for almost a month but today went well

Log Press: 240×2, 280×1, 310×1, 330×1 – Easy PR

Axle Clean and Press: 240×1, 280×1, 300×1 – Clean took a while, press was easy

Stones: 250, 310, 330, 360 to 48″ - Done as singles first, then again in a run

I’m very pleased with the progress of my training, every week gets better!  In the next few weeks I’m looking to work on the press medley and do some rep work with the 360 stone.
